Stay at the Hotel des Cépages in Arbois

Discover Arbois and Jura

By setting your bags down at the Logis Hôtel des Cépages, you are in Franche-Comté, at the entrance to Arbois. Ideally nestled in the heart of the Jura vineyards between the spa town of Salins-les-bains (whose saltworks have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Poligny, the capital of Comté cheese, Arbois is a charming town that has been awarded the label "petite cité comtoise de caractère" (small characteristic town of Franche-Comté), "petite cité de France" (small town of France), and "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire" (land of art and history) along with its neighbours.

It is first and foremost the capital of the Jura wines, renowned for its vineyards as well as its gastronomy. However, it is also endowed with a beautiful architectural heritage, as illustrated by the picturesque ochre-coloured houses of the old town and the 12th and 13th century Saint-Just church with its 60-metre bell tower.

Among the must-see attractions in Arbois: the Maison de Pasteur houses the personal effects, objects, apparatus and instruments of the famous scientist who lived here with his family for many years. The Musée de la Vigne et du Vin (Vine and Wine Museum), located in part of the Château Pécauld, tells the story of the history and traditions linked to winegrowing and presents the region's grape varieties. It should be remembered that the Arbois appellation was the first to obtain its DOP in France in 1936.

Arbois also attracts lovers of preserved natural landscapes. A remarkable natural site made up of vineyards and forests, the charming town is crossed by a top category river, the Cuisance, the source of which can be found at the foot of the majestic reculée des Planches, classified "NATURA 2000".

Alternating rivers, waterfalls, sumptuous lakes, mountain pastures and pine forests, but also towns and villages with a rich heritage and renowned vineyards, tasty cheeses, diverse crafts... the Jura is definitely a very popular destination for nature enthusiasts, lovers of beautiful discoveries and, of course, gourmets.
